Supervisors move to eliminate elected office of public guardian/public administrator (CA)

WOODLAND — Yolo County supervisors are moving ahead with plans to eliminate the elected office of public guardian/public administrator, splitting the duties of that office between the Health and Human Services Agency and the Sheriff’s Department.

The board on Tuesday voted to have staff return with an ordinance that would move public guardian duties (primarily acting as conservator for those unable to care for themselves) into HHSA and public administrator duties (handling the estates of those who die without a will or survivors) into the sheriff-coroner’s office.

 

Justice of the Peace Uresti should resign (TX)

Justices of the peace in Texas don’t have to be lawyers, but they should be.

The State Commission on Judicial Conduct last week issued a public reprimand and ordered remedial judicial training for Bexar County Precinct 4, Place 2 Justice of the Peace Yolanda Uresti.

The commission’s findings on Uresti, a Democrat, are an embarrassment.

 

Gibbs & Bruns Added to Lawsuit about John O’Quinn’s Body (TX)

The late John M. O’Quinn’s longtime companion Darla Lexington has added defendants, including Houston’s Gibbs & Bruns, to the lawsuit she filed seeking to bring back to Texas his remains, which were disinterred and removed from a Wimberley mausoleum and moved to a Louisiana cemetery.

In her initial petition filed in March in the 127th District Court in Harris County, Lexington, who maintains she was O’Quinn’s wife, sought unspecified damages from Houston-based Service Corporation International Texas Funeral Services (SCI Texas).

Freya D. Pearson said she was a financial adviser, a homeless mother and a consultant to a Georgia probate court.

She now has a new title: thief.

A federal jury on Thursday convicted the Rockdale County resident of scamming a Missouri lottery winner out of $440,000, the Department of Justice announced.

 

Minnesota Judge Dismisses Two Alleged Heirs Vying for Prince’s Multi-Million-Dollar Estate

Claims from two more alleged heirs vying for Prince’s estimated $250 million estate have been dismissed.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Judge Kevin W. Eide ordered that “Brianna Nelson and are excluded as heirs” of the late icon’s estate.
