LOS ANGELES: The trial over media mogul Sumner Redstone’s advance healthcare directive should be open to the public, a California judge tentatively ruled on Wednesday in a lawsuit brought by an ex-girlfriend.

Why Over Half of Prince’s Estate Will Go to the Government

Daily Signal

April 29, 2016

It appears that the pop star Prince may have died without a will, leaving behind a multimillion-dollar estate. Although Prince has one full sister and five half-siblings, Prince’s family members will not be his biggest heirs.

Both the federal government and Minnesota’s state government will assess so-called “death taxes” or estate taxes on Prince’s assets, taking away more than half his estate. Between his physical assets—cash, investments, home, etc.—and his future royalties, Prince’s estate has been estimated to be between $300 and $500 million.

Los Angeles Times

Ariel Winter is going to UCLA in the fall, she announced Friday. Meanwhile, her mother, Crystal Workman, has been going to town this week on her estranged daughter, casting herself as the victim in their fraught relationship.

“I think Ariel is conjuring up stories to help her career at my expense, and I feel as a parent like I’m being bullied,” Workman told “Inside Edition” this week, presumably referring to interviews the “Modern Family” actress did recently in which the 18-year-old spoke in little detail about her relationship with her mother.

Heirs of Henry Ford II riches say mom’s lawyer ‘may have had them written out of her will so he can take their $304million inheritance after he wouldn’t let them see her for a YEAR’

The Daily Mail

April 29, 2016

The step-daughters of multi-millionaire and former Ford Motor Company CEO Henry Ford II are worried that their share of his $350million estate might have driven off into the sunset.

Debbie Guibord called police Wednesday to complain that their mom’s lawyer was keeping her and her sister from seeing their 75-year-old mother, Kathleen DuRoss Ford, Page Six reported Friday.

‘The daughters have only been allowed to talk to their mother by phone with [lawyer L Frank Chopin] on the line in a conference call,’ a source told the site. ‘They’ve been completely shut out for nearly a year.’

Soriano: Family feuds and shattered families (PHIL)

May 2, 2016

I HAD a wonderful time exchanging notes with the participants of my family business talk last Friday at the Holiday Inn in Makati. It was a sold out event with whole families coming in droves and occupying several tables armed with loads of questions related to governance.

To those who attended, many thanks! It is my sincere desire that the key learnings highlighted in the talk can translate into actual application and pocket wins leading to harmony and growth in your respective family businesses.

Family feuds in the Philippines, and elsewhere in the world, have always been about money. Lots of money. However, although estate fights are commonly perceived to be just about money, there is almost always more to a family war than just the money. Many estate disputes are sewn by the seeds of jealousy, greed, thirst for control, bitterness, hatred, and hurt feelings resulting from real or perceived preferential treatment by a parent.
