A District of Columbia appeals court rules that the attorney disciplinary board needs to investigate whether attorneys who represented both a son and mother in two disputes regarding the mother’s trust needed informed consent even though the board concluded that the son’s and mother’s interest were aligned. Davidson estate sues Deloitte Tax over $2.7B IRS bill (MI)

The estate of billionaire and former Detroit Pistons owner Bill Davidson is suing an international company’s tax firm over a recommended plan lawyers claim led to an Internal Revenue Service bill that topped $2.7 billion.

According to the lawsuit filed Thursday in New York state’s Supreme Court, Deloitte Tax LLP created “a reckless and grossly negligent estate and tax plan” for Davidson, who died in 2009 at age 86.

Michael Lippman, a suburban New York City lawyer, was recently charged with stealing more than $1.4 million from clients. The accusation comes a year after he settled felony grand larceny charges, stemming from allegations that as an attorney in the Bronx Public Administrator’s Office he stole more than $1.5 million from estates he settled.
