Step-families usually come with baggage. And as billionaire’s widow Judy Taubman stood angrily outside her Mayfair flat – ten suitcases piled up on the pavement – she seemed like the perfect example.

The 70-year-old former Miss Israel arrived back in London after a flight from New York to find herself locked out of her £5million home and a security guard on the door after a row with her stepchildren turned nasty.

Her husband Alfred Taubman, a property tycoon who bought the world-famous auction house Sotheby’s in 1983, died in April this year aged 91, leaving his vast fortune to be divided up. A forthcoming sale of his art could raise as much as a billion dollars.

Turning aside objections from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Travis County judge approved an out-of-court settlement Tuesday that recognizes the eight-year relationship of two Austin women as a common-law marriage.

The settlement accepted by Travis County Probate Judge Guy Herman ended an estate fight between Sonemaly Phrasavath and family members of the woman soon to be legally acknowledged as her wife — Stella Powell, who died of cancer in June 2014.

But team owner Tom Benson and lawyers who control trust funds for his estranged daughter and grandchildren apparently still are haggling over what they think Benson’s sports empire is worth, according to records filed Monday in a federal lawsuit.
