On October 12, Dateline aired a broadcast about Narcy Novack, widow of Ben Novack Jr., a member of the family famous for its ownership of the Miami Beach Fontainebleau Hotel. Novack and her brother, Cristobal Veliz, were found guilty of murdering both Novack’s husband and his mother in an effort to gain control of their estates. Both, convicted by a federal jury in June, face up to life in prison for orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot called “peculiarly sadistic” by prosecutors. Bernice Novack was murdered in April 2009, her son, Ben, three months later in July. The pair’s sentencing was recently delayed until Dec. 17 based on Veliz’s request for a new lawyer.

As always, Estate of Denial® reminds that people need not have high-dollar estates to be subject to such heinous activities. Sadly, we’ve seen similar stories across the country in which estates of far less value have been similarly targeted. Though they won’t often as well show up on Dateline, EoD works to warn of such threats.

Estate of Denial® provides news, analysis and commentary on abusive practices occurring in probate courts and via probate instruments (wills, trusts, guardianships, powers of attorney). We provide original perspective to educate the public regarding this growing threat to both individual freedoms and property rights.
