Attorney charged with embezzling $721,000 from sisters (CA)

An Orange County attorney has been charged with embezzling more than $720,000 from his client trust fund from two  sisters, authorities said Tuesday.

Peter David Nitschke, 45, who lives in Newport Beach, offered to help two sisters after their 95-year-old mother died and left her daughters more than $675,000, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office. The sisters are 65 and 69 years old.

Nitschke was friends with the women’s family and was president of their church congregation in Laguna Woods, according to prosecutors. He is charged with stealing more than $675,000 plus an additional $46,000 from a real estate transaction, the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

“Nitschke is accused of then spending the money or hiding it by moving it into other accounts,” the district attorney’s office said.

Prosecutors said he was required by the California State Bar to place the money in his client trust account.

He was being held in lieu of $725,000 bail and was expected to be arraigned Wednesday at the Central Jail in Santa Ana.
