One other quick thing on Danny Tate.
Incensed by the hijacking of his friend’s liberty and property, singer-songwriter Kevin Montgomery has put out a call to action through the following posting on his web site.
Is Danny Tate’s fight a modern day Cain and Abel story?
Wednesday, 31st March 2010That question has been on my mind the last few days. There are details of this case that seriously concern me. One, if you start out with $615,000, and two years later you are left with a fast, dwindling amount of 100 some odd thousand………..then how is your “conservator” conserving, or protecting your wealth?
In addition, I understand that Danny’s songwriter/publisher copyrights could be on the chopping block. This is a MAJOR no, no. Songwriter’s portions of a copyright should be protected at all costs. This is money that will come right into Danny’s mailbox for the rest of his life, and when he is gone……his daughters could benefit financially from the hard work, and persistence their father has put in over the last 30 years of his career in the record business.
If Danny’s would-be conservator had his best interests in mind……..he certainly would not ever consider selling his publishing in a fire sale-unless the sole purpose was to get that money in one whack, and liquidate it. You sometimes see this on Music Row in divorce cases when a songwriter literally has to sell their catalogue to settle a judgement against them. It would be a travesty.
This is why I’m fighting and organizing on Danny Tate’s behalf.
The Nashville Scene article set me on fire, and over the course of this past week I’ve spoken to Danny a few times. He is sober, smart, and ready to have his life back.
We need YOU to help. Please join the Facebook group “Friends for Danny Tate’s Defense”, and please consider email the Governor of Tennessee on Danny’s behalf. Keep it civil, and professional, but passionate.
Danny’s fate will be decided by Judge Kennedy on May 24th and May 25th in Nashville. Our goal is for him to walk out of that courtroom on May 25th a “free” man……….ready, willing, and able to get to work with what he does best-making music.
