Estate news follow-up from Texas, Florida and California

November 23rd, 2009

We just came across a great posting about last week’s conclusion to the Glassell trial.   Besides highlighting the approach taken by the numerous legal heavyweights involved, the piece also nicely describes lawyers’ use of style over substance when cases are thin and credible evidence is scarce.

Recent EoD postings have been generating interesting comments both on- and off-line.  Comments about the expansion of the Judge Larry Seidlin case mirror some of our own findings.  We’re currently reviewing a mass of information regarding the Scott Rothstein scandal that broke in late October.  It has a clear connection to Seidlin’s legal issues which will be explained in an upcoming column.  With questions surfacing on both legal and public corruption fronts, Rothstein’s scam is shaking up things from southern Florida (Broward County and surrounding areas) to the north (the capital city of Tallahassee) and probably numerous points in between.

We’re also hearing that Steve Price is receiving a steady stream of affidavits from people concerned about the San Bernardino and Riverside County probate systems.  Click here if you missed that posting.

My parents have been under the “care” of a conservator since 2006 which is something I actually consented to because I live out of state and could not serve as their conservator. If I had had ANY idea how abusive and extravagantly expensive it would be, I NEVER would have consented. My parents and I are all University of California graduates and consider ourselves savvy consumers, but we NEVER even suspected that conservatorships in California could be so negligent and emotionally abusive.

Please end this cruel practice soon!

Melodie Scott should have to pay back all the money she stole and go to jail for all her illegal actions.

  3. Claudia Donnelly Says:

Please help the elderly in California by convicting and punishing corrupt guardians/conservatores.

    Thanks.

Among the 5 million individuals in the United States who suffer from Alzheimer’s, I can’t help but think that my mother has company with those who have dealt with various forms of torture for any number of reasons; incompetence, apathy and a sadistic nature come to mind. What ever occurs in any Adult Family Home or nursing home generally stays there for the malady has taken from them the ability to communicate. In addition if they are fortunate enough (for some) to have an estate worth stealing, it will be done as countless stories from witnesses have shown. This is a familiar theme (incompetence, apathy) with the variation of greed and corruption. Think who assists the shyster?
    Sincerely
    Dean Libey
