California conservatorship case update
Journalist Janet Phelan regularly reports on conservatorship activities in California. An important appeals hearing recently took place regarding the licensing of conservator Melodie Scott. Scott was prominently featured in the 2005 Los Angeles Times series Guardians for Profit: When a Family Matter Turns into a Business. Click here for an overview of the proceedings. Two later articles are also available: As Scott’s Licensing Hearing Resumes, Conservatee Dies and Scott Licensing Question Now Up to Judge.
Janet sent this request for the EoD audience:
Steve Price, who testified at Melodie Scott’s licensing hearing, has constructed this affidavit for people to sign and will forward the signed copies to the Department of Consumer Affairs. At last count, I believe we have somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty signatures. The head of the DCA must sign off on whatever judgment the Administrative Law Judge comes up with; therefore, the DCA is the best place to lodge our concerns. Please post this with the Price’s email address and a request for signatures and forwarding to Price.
Thanks.
The affidavit text is available affidavit0911202. Signed documents should be returned to SPRICE26@roadrunner.com.

I am familiar with the Melodie Scott case. It is one of the worst cases of conservatorship abuse I have ever seen, barring the one we have been inflicted with. The court simply must stop Melodie Scott from ever practicing again. If that is not done, abusive conservators will be emboldened and confirmed in their belief that it is truly open season on elders and dependent adults, if they do not have reason to believe that already. The law is already so weak that they act with impunity in destroying families and lives, stealing whatever they want from their wards without a care. This is the test of whether the system can ever correct itself.

Illegal acts committed by associates of guardians (doctors, attorneys, judges) should not be tolerated. If Deputy General Cooper is allowed to block the testimony of victims of conservatorship abuse, a report of racketeering needs to be made to the US Department of Justice.

Get Melodee Scott out of there

Our legal system must take a stand and address the abusive conservators. Melodee Scott and all others like her must be stopped.
As individuals we will be judged. That includes whether or not to reach out to help others.
Take a stand… do what is right… end Melodee Scotts career! You are accountable to do your part.
